Pray for Japan 2011

In the light of the recent tragedy that has not only gripped Japan but the world over the past few days I have created this illustration to mark my personal respects.

I hope to donate this illustration so that they can it can be sold as a print for which all the proceeds will go to help Japan in this time of crisis.

I will let everyone know if and when this will become available and if anybody knows of a governing body or creative organisation that I can donate this to please don't hesitate to get in contact.

More Experimentation

So recentlly I've been getting the feeling of being stuck in a rut. Every image seems to be similar to each other and everything is just getting a bit repetitive, somethings gotta change!

So I decided to set up a little mini project to explore different approaches to working and above is the small first step towards something different. I'm starting to add shadows to my work in a bid to create depth and really want to push and play with the shadows as far as I can, I plan to start using textures more and try out different colour palettes as well. One of the main thing s I also want to do is start to illustrate different things, this should push me well out of my comfort zone and provide a great challenge.

DDB London - Gutenberg & Paperhat

To celebrate the unity of two of the worlds best production based companies Gutenberg and Paperhat, I was commissioned by DDB London to create a striking and engaging image that represented the joint association of both companies.

The image will take the form of a six sheet backlit poster (Bus stop poster) and will be lit up and installed in the reception area for clients to view while in the waiting area. The object of the project was to first create a striking image that would draw the viewer in for them to realise that all the wording within the illustration is relevant to what Gutenberg and Paperhat do.

To celebrate the chinese new year and the year of the rabbit I created this personal illustration.

Last years 2010 year of the tiger went down quite well so hopefully this one will too. Its fascinating to see what changes in style a year can make, I feel that its a lot more complete and solid compared to last years tiger.

Can't wait to see this series come full circle with my next tiger illustration which will be in a decades time! Catch the whole image on my Flickr.

Hello all! first and foremost I hope that the new year has refreshed all of you creatively and generally.I hope your all getting off to a good start. Whatever your goals and dreams may be, let this year be the year and not another year that you let pass by.

I have been busy over the festive period working on some lovely projects for some dream clients and all shall be revealed throughout the year. Above is just a little illustration to mark new beginnings and also one resolution that I really need to stick to!

Not so long ago I had the pleasure of designing my own piece of wall art as part of my ongoing collaboration with GROVE. My illustration was laser engraved onto wood and exhibited as part of a group show which took place at the openhouse gallery in Portland. Hello all! First and foremost I have to apologise for the lack of updates recently. Things have been hectic these past few months and just couldn't find the time to get a quick update in!

Dont fret! I am well and have been working on some fantastic projects for some amazing clients and im dying to leak one but confidentiality is confidentiality and I don't want to be sued! Some of the projects are starting to come into fruition now and hopefully will be able to go live soon, keep your eyes peeled. Outside of commissions I will have work featuring in a few books coming soon one of which I am dead excited about as I have always wanted to be in that certain book! top notch. I have had a piece exhibited as part of the "Dont believe the type" exhibition featuring some amazing artists and creatives including Alex Trochut, Si Scott and our Sheffield's very own Nick Deakin.

The image above is my contribution to a lovely project by Saint London and RKCR/Y&R. To celebrate Internet week europe , illustrators competed against 10 year olds in a battle to see who could interpret the internet best. All the submissions were collated into a booklet which will be in insert in Creative Review. Also D&AD will be covering this experiment for their monthly newswire! very exciting! You can see all the works that have taken part in the project HERE.

So all in all everything is all good creative wise now im just bracing myself for the Christmas rush!

Crest Proposal

These illustrations are proposals for a large re-branding project commissioned by Scholz and Friends Stockholm.

The project would include the creation of over 30 crests and this was a proposed test shield.

This is my contribution to the recent AnyForty versus exhibition that took place in Bristol and wrapped up today.

AnyForty is an urban street-wear label that has collaborated with some of the finest urban art talent from across the world. Other contributors to the show include the 123KLAN, MWM Graphics (Mathew M. Moore), Guy Mckinley amongst many more. I am blessed and proud to have been included alongside such a fine roster of talent and absolutely gutted I couldn't get down to have a peak at the exhibition in person.

Sneak Peak at Jonny Wan X Dolly Oblong!

I never really blog about current projects im working on sneak peaks for that matter but I've been working on this all day and cant wait to get this finished. Also I felt I just had to show someone somewhere!

I was invited by Dolly Oblong to create a paper toy as part of their totem range. Dolly Oblong has some fantastic toys created by some great creatives all over the world, needless to say its a pleasure to be involved. For now this is all your getting, don't want to spoil all the fun!

Agency Rush

I'm very pleased and proud to say that I've signed with the brilliant creative agency Agency Rush. They will represent me and my illustrations worldwide and I join a roster of some of the best image makers and designers out there. Very much looking forward to developing a longstanding relationship with the team behind the agency as well as the creatives they represent.

I got the chance to go down to Brighton to show Nicki and Helen at the agency my work a bit ago and it was a brilliant experience. I was nervous at first as I had not presented my portfolio in front of anybody for a long time. Helen and Nicki made me feel so welcome and calm and it became a pleasure talking through my work and getting their opinions.

What I learnt from my presentation was that Agency Rush is very much an agency that is professional honest and upfront. Its built upon trust and teamwork, there is a communal vibe within the agency and it feels like being part of a big family! I'm very excited for the future and can't wait to get working them after I return from Hong Kong.

Childs Play - Sheffield Groupshow

This is one if three pieces to be included in a little group-show in Sheffield taking place some time in the beginning of June. The aim of the exhibition is to bring together illustrators and creative's as well as supporting local talent within Sheffield.

The theme for the exhibition was simply "Childs Play" and we could interpret that any way we liked. I though back to all the storybooks and nursery rhymes I enjoyed as a child and decided to illustrate a character from my favorite three. These ended up being Humpty dumpty, Little red riding hood and also an illustration based on twinkle twinkle little star.

The exhibition is due to take place sometime at the beginning of June and there should be an opening night taking place so as soon as I have more details I will let you all know. If you happen to be in Sheffield at the time, pop down!!

The article was about how payment for goods and services using credit cards and cash is on the decline and that more and more of these transactions are taking place over the internet globally with greater speed.

I finished another little editorial spot for WIRED Italy the other day. The illustration will be used as part of their "top ten" column focussing on prototypes that may or may not change the world.

I have been having some major fun experimenting with type recently. As of late a lot of my illustrations have focused on characters and shape experimentation. I always felt that the element of type was missing from my illustrations so thats why im making a big effort to develop a way of working with type that is natural and original to me. Hopefully as I gain more ownership of the type aspect of my illustrations I can combine them with my characters and patterns to create a more personally balanced illustration. The Renmen project, a brilliant initiative jointly curated and created by the team at Thunder chunky and Ben the illustrator. The sole aim of the project is to raise as much as possible for UNICEFS's Haiti appeal.

Working with the creative industries greatest talents worldwide, the project will run throughout 2010 compromising of numerous creative projects that will be available for sale online, all the proceeds going to Unicef's appeal fund.

This illustration is part of a collaborative project between me and fellow creative Muiz Anwar. A them is chosen on a weekly basis and is then open to interpretation as to the outcome. The theme for this illustration is "Resurrection."

I have taken influence from the butterfly, the christian symbol of resurrection and injected my own take on the theme. These illustrations cobined with Muiz's will eventually form of limited edition cards.

Geo Law or George Law to his nearest and dearest. Either way if your from the steel city chances are you've seen his work on flyers, posters, t-shirts and the list goes on. A long time friend and fellow illustrator, we both know the daily grind of having to deal with account departments who have lost your invoice or clients who constantly seen to "know" more about design then you do. This is a long overdue tribute to a great friend and also a big pat on the back for his work throughout 2009. He is an illustrator on the rise and a rapid one at that, he has logged numerous local clients throughout the city and they keep coming back for more. His work tends to be hand-drawn and then digitally manipulated for slight re touching. This is a preview of a self initiated project that is ongoing. Seeing as im too skint buy the amount of clothes I want at the moment I have decided to do what I do best... Illustrate them instead!

The main aim of this little project is to keep my use of photoshop and illustrator on point in between commissions and also to speed up my work rate and not forgetting evolving my image development further.

The underlying aim of this project is to eventually make enough images to self publish this as a book to remind me of all the clothes I need to get!!

Im aiming for 3 a day and will upload them to my Flickr where you can keep track of this project if you wish. Il probably upload them in batches of 10 (less hassle that way if im busy with other projects. Ciao for now!

After a long time defining and coming up with a visual output personal to me, its time to broaden the horizons and explore different formats of my work keeping it fresh and interesting. This is my most recent piece and takes on a more grid like structure. All the key elements I enjoy working with e.g patterns, symmetry facial expressions are all there. Lets see where this takes me. Ive been trying to keep my illustration fresh adn more varied, Im planing on seeking representation as an illustrator soon so I just want to make a final push at really developing my style and maing it more flexible, especially working with type and introducing my graffiti element into it. Just recieved my promotional material from moo.com, having been more than satisfied with the sample business card they off for free, I decided to buy a set of 60 promotional postcards and 100 business cards. Again I have no complaints whatsoever. Uploading and editing the images was simple and clear and formatting the cards was even easier. Now to harass some art directors! You can see all the photos I took of the postcards and business cards at my Flickr.
